116 CHARLESTON STYLE & DESIGN | FALL 14 P U B L I S H E R ' S L E T T E R H ow fast our summers in Charleston pass! As we roll out this fall issue, it seems like only yesterday that many of us were looking forward to summer activities like trips to the beach, boating and backyard barbecues. The two beautiful houses we feature this time have something in common: wonderful water views. One of them, located on Wadmalaw Island, looks out over Leadenwah Creek, which feeds into the North Edisto River. A dream home for a couple returning to the Lowcountry after many years, it replaced an older house on the property. The other, located on Daniel Island, overlooks the Wando River and per- fectly integrates open areas for entertaining with cozy rooms for the homeowners and their children. Our stories on design run the gamut from those on some of the Lowcountry's top designers to retailers of antiques, light- ing and windows. Speaking of designers, be sure to check out our editor's review of Nancy Braithwaite's new book, titled Simplicity. The well-known Atlanta-based designer, who champions "purposeful editing," de-clutters spaces to create a spare yet elegant look. You'll love the beautiful photography that illustrates her work. I'm sure you'll also appreciate our stories on fall planting, red wines from Spain and traveling the highlands of Ecuador. Italy's sun-kissed Amalf Coast provided the backdrop for our fashion feature, while the William Aiken House complemented this season's elegant bridal gowns. Our very best wishes for the upcoming holidays. Quentin Senise Publisher Photograph by Michael David Adams
