DESIGN Risen from the Ashes A renovation transforms this fre-razed Sullivan's Island home BY E R I N HOLADAY Z I EG LE R | PHOTOG RAPHY BY HOLG E R OB E NAUS W hen a devastating electrical fre took their home down to its foundations in October 2011, Drs. Eric and Michelle Rovner found themselves in unexpected and uncertain circumstances. The Rovners weren't interested in renovating a home when they moved from New York to Sullivan's Island eight years ago. They found a good ft in an updated 224 CHARLESTON STYLE & DESIGN | SUMMER 13 island residence with an intimate feel. "We bought the house a year after it had been fully renovated," Michelle explains. "We were not the type of people that would want to build or do our own thing." But with the reality of the fre upon them, Michelle and Eric took the opportunity to rebuild with the family's tastes and lifestyle in mind. "After living in the house for a num- ber of years, there were things that we knew we'd change if we could," Michelle explains. "The renovations were about how we live our life." Since the home is wrapped in the natural beauty of Sullivan's Island, designer Beau Clowney knew that enhancing the views and natural light was crucial to the renovation.
